Dry food for sterilised cats

Dry foods with reduced calories and fat to match the lower energy needs after neutering, with added support for urinary health.

After neutering, a cat’s energy requirement drops by roughly 20–30% while its appetite often goes up. Carrying on with the same amount of the old food can lead to noticeable weight gain within a few months. Dry foods for sterilised cats address this by lowering calorie density while keeping protein high, so muscle is maintained and fat gain is limited.

When choosing, check that an animal protein is the first ingredient, that fat sits roughly in the 9–14% range, and that minerals such as magnesium and phosphorus are controlled. Neutered males are more prone to urinary crystals, so “urinary support” on the label is a genuine plus. Higher-fibre recipes keep cats feeling full for longer and help reduce hairballs.

Work out the daily portion from the feeding table using your cat’s target weight, not its current one, and weigh it on a kitchen scale. Switch over 7–10 days by mixing the new food with the old. Adding some wet food to the daily routine is also a good way to increase water intake.
